We nearly are! Yesterday Beard and I officially finished all of our Christmas shopping. A full two weeks before Christmas. And…
Our tree is up and most of our gifts are already wrapped and under it!
How did Beard and I accomplish this feat? I’ll let you in on a few of our secrets:
- Start early! This year we started thinking about Christmas gifts before Halloween. Don’t misinterpret what I’m saying; we don’t put up decorations or play Christmas music this early, but we sure as heck do start thinking about what kinds of gifts we’d like to give everybody. We started Christmas shopping well before Thanksgiving.
- Divide and conquer: Beard knows his parents better than I do, and I know my parents better than he does. Obviously. So why for the past few Christmases had I been trying to buy gifts for my mother- and father-in-law? Because I must be a glutton for punishment. This year Beard took the responsibility for picking out gifts for his parents. Not only do I trust his judgement much better than my own, but it made Christmas shopping that much less stressful on me.
- Don’t be afraid of gift cards: Sometimes there really are those people on your list that are just more difficult to buy for for one reason or another. For me, those people are my oldest sister’s children. I have no idea what elementary age and preteens are into these days, and I worry about getting things inappropriate for their age. So I send a gift card. The only thing I do remember about that age was loving the ability to pick out my own gifts.
- Utilize Amazon, Etsy, etc.: For any gifts I ordered online, I had them sent straight to the recipient. I saved time and postage this way.
Because of our hard work Beard and I are able to enjoy the fun parts of Christmas with our girls like baking cookies, watching the Grinch, and reading Christmas books.
