It was a quick “weekend” around here, and I have some catching up to do on my thankfulness.
Can we just stop for a moment and recognize the ridiculousness of that statement?
Thank you for humoring me.
Anyway, I have had quite a few things to be thankful for this week:
I am thankful for the team I serve with at our church. I have served in kids programming for more than 3 years now, and it has been a well-spent 3 years. I began in the nursery playing with toddlers and wiping noses, but for the last several months I have been the “small group leader” for about 10 five- and six-year old boys and girls. I cannot tell you how wonderful it feels to be another voice that speaks into a child’s life. These kids may be young, but they really are able to grasp a lot of the bottom lines of our Bible story for the week, and I am always impressed at how well they do with memory verses. I only pray that there will be people who love Jesus that speak into my girls’ lives, as well.
I have written a bit before about the moms’ group I am in, called MOPS. MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) is an international Christian organization for women with children 5 and under. I attend a local MOPS group two Thursdays a month for a few hours. Some very nice college students watch the children and have activities for them, while us moms can hear speakers ranging from local police officers, ministry coordinators, photographers, and entrepreneurs. Sometimes we craft; sometimes we have discussion group sessions where we learn more about one another. Some weeks we have a “MOPS Night Out”. On Monday a few of us met for dinner at the local Cracker Barrel without husbands or kids. That night just reminded me that this group has been a wonderful resource for me to grow in my walk with the Lord specifically as a wife and mother, and also for wonderful fellowship.
DATE NIGHT. Enough said. 🙂
Honestly, today I was having a hard time being thankful for anything. It’s cold outside, I haven’t gotten enough sleep, and neither have the girls for the past few days. Everyone is teething and cranky. But today I did pick up Clara’s birthday dress. An acquaintance of mine makes handmade dresses for little girls, and I had asked her to make one for Little Bean’s party. I loved that she let me pick out the fabrics and colors, and I love that I supported a local business and fellow mom.
